What is an H-1B Visa?

Non-immigrant H-1B visas enable US employers to hire foreign workers for specialized jobs requiring technical know-how. Tens of thousands of workers from nations like China and India are hired by US IT companies every year because of it.

Fees Hike of US H-1B Visa

The updated fees for registration and visa applications have been finalized by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a statement on Wednesday, January 31, which disclosed the rate increases. The registration fees for H-1B visas have raised by an astounding 2050% in accordance with the new norm. Here’s everything you need to know about the most recent adjustments to the immigration process that the DHS and USCIS have announced.

What are the updated prices?

The new charge schedule will take effect on April 1. Among immigrants from India, the H-1B, L-1, and EB-5 visas are the most popular ones. The new H-1B registration procedure fees, which will be $215 after an increase of 2050%, are a stark contrast to the existing rate of $10. The $460 L-1B visa fee was raised to $1,385 in the present. In the meantime, the cost of an EB-5 visa has increased from $3,675 to $11,160.

Net costs, benefits, and transfer payments will arise from the fee revisions as well as modifications to the forms and charge structures, according to the Department of Homeland Security’s federal announcement.

Earlier in the year, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, criticised the United States for capping H-1B visas and declared that the nation ought to stop allowing illegal immigration while boosting legal immigration. He claimed that moving to the US legally was really tough.

Speaking about a graphic that displayed pending applications by “highly skilled people” for visas under the H-1B category, Musk remarked, “While it is trivial to enter the United States illegally, it is insanely difficult for legal immigrants to move to the United States.”

Why are the new visa fees more expensive?

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) contends that the final rule modifications will save the government money by reducing processing errors and administrative burdens. It is anticipated to improve adjudicative process efficiency and facilitate a more accurate evaluation of service cost, enabling more appropriately aligned rates in subsequent regulations.
