Maximum number of entries that are permitted

The Japan eVisa allows only one entry. Online applications are not accepted for multiple-entry visas. For multiple-entry visas, you have to apply at a Japanese overseas establishment for a regular tourist visa.

Eligibility criteria for the application of eVisa:

  • The following countries are acceptable: Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States of America. Foreign nationals residing in India are also eligible.
  • The JAPAN eVISA website is where foreign nationals living in these countries/regions can apply for an eVISA, with the exception of individuals who are exempt from short-term visa requirements.
  • In the nations and areas listed below, applications must be submitted via an authorised organisation. It is recommended that candidates visit the website of the Japanese overseas entity that has jurisdiction over their place of residence for further information.
  • Only individuals who fly to Japan can apply for a JAPAN eVISA.
  • The applicant may be asked to attend in person for an interview at the Japanese overseas establishment that has jurisdiction over the applicant’s place of residence at any point throughout the application procedure.
  • The JAPAN eVISA website is the only application portal accessible to holders of regular passports.

How to apply for the Japan Evisa:

  1. Go to the Japan Visa Application Center’s official website, which is run by VFS Global.
  2. Select “Temporary Visitor Visa,” go over the prerequisites, and get the application. Make sure to accurately fill it out and make copies of the necessary paperwork.
  3. Make an appointment to submit your application at the Visa Application Centre. You’ll get an email with your appointment details as soon as it’s booked.
  4. Fill out the application form at the centre and wait to hear back via email to find out how your application is progressing. An electronic visa issue notice will be sent to the successful applicants’ mobile devices.
  5. Show the electronic visa issue notice on your device upon checking in at the airport. To view the notice, scan the barcode and enter the necessary information.

The documentation needed varies depending on the nation. The best place to find the precise list of documents required for your combination of nationality and citizenship is the Japan eVisa website.

Required documents:

  • The passport
  • One passport-sized picture
  • Evidence of permanent residence or immigration status Schedule of the flight
  • Timetable of the visit

The eVisa fee

Typically, eVisa costs 3,000 Japanese Yen (1644 INR).

Certain nations have bilateral agreements with Japan, thus there are no fees or a reduced fee. To determine if you qualify for a reduced cost or no fee at all, check with the Japanese overseas establishment that has authority over your place of residence.

After your application is approved and your eVisa is granted, the precise cost will be displayed. The Japan eVisa must be paid for after the visa is issued, in contrast to the majority of other nations.

Five business days are required for processing.

This time frame begins the moment your online application is received and verified as complete by the Japanese overseas establishment.

If you are requested to provide more papers, the standard 5-day processing period will begin after you have done so.
