Batavia, New York, is a city in western New York state. The city is the county seat of Genesee County. It is named after the Betuwe region of the Netherlands, in honor of early Dutch land developers. The city is the home of the Batavia Muckdogs baseball team of the New York-Penn League. It is situated along the New York State Thruway, a major highway that runs through the city. The town has a UN/LOCODE of USBIA.

The canals of the city facilitated efficient transportation, as well as provided an aesthetic beauty to the area. Dwyer Stadium

Dwyer Stadium, a 2600-capacity stadium located in Genesee County, Batavia, New York is home to the Dwyer family. Dwyer Stadium was opened in 1996, replacing the 1937 original stadium. The original playing field is still at Dwyer. Although the stadium’s grandstand and surrounding structures are new, the area and field have been home to professional baseball for over 70 years. The original stadium was constructed in 1939. It underwent three names before being replaced by the new one in 1995. The first season of play was not completed. A snow fence was needed for each game.

 

To provide seating, chairs were borrowed from local mortuaries. The work continued throughout the first season, but it did not stop fans from attending.
