The Harriet Tubman House, Harriet Tubman Home For the Elderly, and the AME Zion Church are National Historic Landmarks. Harriet Tubman was a proposal by William Seaward in 1858 New York. He offered to sell his Auburn property for a fair price and flexible terms. Auburn was home to a strong abolitionist community. Seaward, a well-known supporter for the Underground Railroad, was someone Harriet could rely on for shelter and funds. About 500 slaves traveled through Auburn before the Civil War.

Tubman was familiar with Senator Seaward as she had used his home as a station several times. Lucretia Mott, a long-time friend and ssupporter of Tubman, encouraged her to move to Auburn. Tubman, who had lived in North Street, St. Catharines Ontario, Canada West, since 1851, was encouraged to move to Auburn by Lucretia Mott, a long-time friend and supporter. This was her home and base of operations. Her parents and entire family had traveled with her to St. Catharines, where they were safe from slave-catchers. Tubman refused to turn down the offer, and in 1858 Tubman signed the $1,200 deal with Senator Seaward.

Willard Chapel

The Willard Chapel, built between 1892-1894, is a rare example of Louis C. Tiffany and Tiffany Glass and Decoration Co.’s work. It is the only known complete and unaltered Tiffany Chapel. The Tiffany interior includes 14 opalescent windows and a rose window. There are also nine Mooresque-styled chandeliers.

Schweinfurth Art Center

Julius A. Schweinfurth, a Boston architect, was born in Auburn, NY. He attended Auburn schools. From an early age, Schweinfurth knew he wanted to be an architect. He moved to Boston to join Peabody and Stearns. He was adamant about his hometown and the people of it all his life. Schweinfurth’s will directed that the remaining trust funds be used to create an Auburn art center for the study and exhibition of the arts. Particular emphasis was given to people with “special talent for any form of art and who plan to make it their life work.” He requested that the committee consult with major museums about the design of the Art Center.

The museum claimed Schweinfurth’s bequest would do more good in the hands a large metropolitan museum that building a museum here in Auburn. However, the Art Center board of Directors strongly disagreed. They won in court. They won in court. The construction of the art center began back in 1980. It was opened on June 28, 1981 with an opening exhibition featuring artists from 12 Central New York County. This tradition continues with the annual Made In NY exhibit.

Two other exhibits are held annually at the Schweinfurth, along with about a dozen other shows that focus on regional artists and themes. We host Both Ends of the Rainbow every year in the early part of the year. These two exhibits highlight the art of preK-12 students and seniors from Central New York. Ward W. O’Hara Agricultural Museum

Official Path Through History Site Take a step back to the turn century, and experience life on the family farm and homestead. The Agricultural & Country Living Museum features farm implements and antiques that changed the American way of living. It includes a blacksmith shop and woodworking shop, a one-room schoolhouse, dairy room, general shop, winter & Fall room, spring & Summer room, colonial kitchen, colonial bedroom, as well as pottery demonstrations. Six video monitors show life in 1800.

Visitors can use thirty audio tours to guide them through the museum. There are displays on honey production, maple sugar production, tobacco cultivation, and a herb garden that contains over 40 herbs. A Model T truck and car are on display, as well as antique tractors, farm equipment and a logging saw, and a water turbine. The ballpark has been open since 1995 and is sometimes called Falcon Park II. Falcon Park’s original incarnation operated from 1927 to the end of 1994. Falcon Park is a standout among its peers in the community. Auburn Community Owned Non-Profit Baseball Association Inc. is the team’s owner and operator. While there may not be much you can do, the stadium has a strong sense of community ownership. You can purchase tickets at the box office windows located under the park’s main signage. However, you won’t find a team store until you have entered the stadium. You can only purchase souvenirs once the gates open. They are located behind the third base line in a kiosk.
