Fort Yargo State Park
This popular park is located between Atlanta and Athens and features a log fort from 1792 built by settlers to protect against Creek and Cherokee Indians. Fort Yargo is a popular destination for outdoor recreation and beautiful scenery.
You can choose between fully-equipped cottages and cozy campsites for overnight guests. Visitors can also reserve “glamping” yurts on the lakeside, which are both permanent canvas and wooden “tents”. Every yurt comes with furniture, electricity and an outside grill. The lake covers 260 acres and offers large swimming beaches, fishing, and boat ramps.
Trails of 20.5 miles are available for hikers and mountain bikers. The park’s disc golf course in the woods is extremely challenging. Fort Yargo State Park can also be used for outdoor weddings, reunions, and other celebrations. There are many options for budget-friendly facilities, including group shelters and lake-view pavilions.
