Hoover Dam

Lake Tahoe

Valley of Fire State Park
Valley of Fire State Park is one of Nevada’s most impressive natural areas. Nevada’s most vibrant landscapes are created by dramatic rock formations and wide-open views of colorful stone waves. It’s only an hour drive from Las Vegas.
Roads through the park offer stunning views of the landscape if you’re only looking for a scenic drive. The hiking trails are a great way to see the park. These hikes are short and easy but offer spectacular scenery such as slot canyons and rock walls covered with petroglyphs. They also allow you to see old filming locations and other amazing sites. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, located just outside Las Vegas is one of Nevada’s most well-known hiking areas. Although the Mojave Desert’s most prominent feature is the massive red rock formations, the area has many other sites and geological formations. Highlights include box canyons, mountains and a visit to the Keystone Thrust.
The park’s 13-mile scenic drive offers a glimpse at many of its sites. However, the Red Rock Canyon hiking trails offer the best access to all the major sites. You can also enjoy rock climbing, road biking and mountain biking as well as horseback riding, picnicking and wildlife watching.

Reno
Although Reno is second in Nevada in population after Las Vegas, it is still quite small with only 250,000 people. It is a small town, but it offers many amazing attractions and events to tourists.
Reno hosts the National Championship Air Races, The Great Reno Balloon Race and the Hot August Nights Car Convention, among other annual celebrations. Reno also hosts the National Automobile Museum, as well as several other museums.
Lake Tahoe is only an hour from Los Angeles if you have the time.
Great Basin National Park
Near the border of Utah and Nevada, Great Basin National Park preserves almost 80,000 acres of range and basin landscapes in east-central Nevada. The 13,063-foot Wheeler Peak dominates the park, while the Lehman Caves are beneath it.
The park also protects Bristlecone Pines, which are almost 5,000 years old. There are many camping spots and backpacking options available in the park. The Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive must be done. It is located next to the huge Highland Ridge Wilderness.

Burning Man
The Black Rock Desert is home to this community-based annual event. It takes place about three hours north from Reno. This unique event is focused on art and self-expression in many formats. Attendees are encouraged to participate rather than just being spectators. It is the people and the community that make this experience special.
Burning Man is held in the late August or early September. It was established in 1986 and has seen a tremendous growth over the years. Today, thousands attend. Tickets sell out and attendance levels are limited each year.

Lamoille Canyon
Lamoille Canyon is located in the middle of Nevada’s Ruby Mountains, Elko Country. Lamoille Canyon Road, which is officially designated National Forest Road, winds around the base the 11,387-foot Ruby Dome.
The road ascends into a stunning canyon at 8,800 feet high, which was created long ago by glaciers. The alpine meadows are bursting with wildflowers in the summer. This area is known for its waterfalls as well as wildlife. There are bighorn sheep and mountain goats in the hills and meadows.

Mount Charleston isn’t just about the snow. It’s also a great escape from the heat and humidity of the valley floor. You’ll find beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls here among the tall pines.
