Howell Township was created as a township through an act of the New Jersey Legislature dated February 23, 1801, using portions of Shrewsbury Township. Parts of the township were used to create Brick Township in Ocean County (February 15, 1850), Wall Township, March 7, 1851, and Farmingdale (April 8 1903). Richard Howell was the third Governor in New Jersey and was the township’s name.

Penny Estomin, her wife, joined the business in 1998 and opened an on-site gift store. They transplanted the Ocean County’s oldest landscaping and nursery, and made it Monmouth County’s newest landscaping nursery and nursery.
