Validity of Indian Passport

In India, a passport is valid for ten years. If someone wishes to continue using their passport’s benefits, they must renew it either before the 10-year expiration date or shortly after it does. It is common for a passport to be recognised as proof of age, residency, and identity. A passport is a must because it is used so frequently throughout life.

Your passport is valid for a period of 5 years, or until the date of your eighteenth birthday, if you are under eighteen. Following that, you can renew your passport online. You have the option of getting a passport that is good for ten years if you are between the ages of fifteen and eighteen.

Steps to renew your passport online

You must first register for a passport account on the official Passport Seva website. You should do the following to accomplish this:

  • Click “New User Registration” on Passport Seva’s official website.
  • Using your residential address as a guide, select the passport office by selecting “Passport Office”.
  • To create a password and login ID, provide information such as your name and email address. After completing the captcha, click “Register.”
  • After that, an email with an account activation link will be sent to you. To activate your account, click on it.
  • You can apply for a new passport or renew your current one after registering on the web.
  • You are now prepared to complete the online passport renewal process!

To renew your passport, therefore, just follow these steps:

  • Visit Passport Seva’s official website.
  • Choose “Re-issue of Passport/Apply for Fresh Passport.” The online application form is reached via a page redirect. Enter all pertinent information in the form, including your name, birthdate, and place of birth.
  • Click “Validate” once the form has been completed.
  • Once all the information has been confirmed, upload and submit this form.
  • In addition, an e-Form can be downloaded, filled out, and uploaded to the website. But, the printed e-Form cannot be turned in to a PSK or regional post office.

How to schedule an appointment to renew your passport:

To schedule a time for the renewal of your passport, take these actions:

Step 1: Enter your login information to access the Passport Seva website.

Step 2: Click on ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ after selecting the ‘View Saved and Submitted Application’ option.

Step 3: Select your preferred Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and choose a payment option.

Step 4: Enter the provided CAPTCHA code to confirm the PSK location you have selected.

Step 5: From the list of available dates, pick an appointment time that works for you, then click “Pay and Book the Appointment.”

The cost of renewing a passport might vary based on a few different criteria, including your age, the booklet’s page count, and the plan type (normal or tatkal). There is an extra charge of ₹2000 if you choose to use the Tatkal system.

Documents Needed to Renew a Passport

The following are the documents you need to provide to renew your passport:

  • Original passport
  • Xerox copies of your existing passport’s first and last two pages; 
  • Photocopies of ECR and non-ECR pages with self-attestation
  • Address the validity extension page for proof. Xerox copy of the observation sheet that has been self-attested

How much would it cost to renew a passport?

Credit or debit cards (only Visa and MasterCard accepted), Internet banking (SBI and other affiliated banks), or SBI Bank Challan can all be used to make payments online. Depending on the applicant’s age, the number of pages in the passport booklet, and whether the scheme is tatkal or normal, there will be differences in the passport renewal costs.

New passport or reissue of the passport with an extra booklet because the 60 pages of the visa are no longer valid for 10 years- RS 2000/-

New Passport or Renewal of Passport for Minors (Under 18), good for five years or until the minor turns eighteen, whichever comes first (36 pages)- RS 1000/-
