What is a Diversity Visa?
Diversity visa is also known as Green card lottery, through this visa over 50,000 people get a chance to get the residence of the United States every single year. The applicants that apply for the visa gets randomly chosen from their application. If you are chosen randomly from the diversity visa it does not mean that you will get the immigrant status. You must apply for the visa after being chosen and should meet the Eligibility criteria.
Announcement date of the Green Card Lottery:-
Diversity Visa lottery will be released on 4th may 2024 at 12:00 p.m. ETD. The notifications of the results will be sent to the emails of the applicants who have applied through USA Green Card.
What to do if you get selected through the lottery:
Go to the Official website of the Government:- Electronic Diversity Visa (state.gov) You can check here whether you have got selected or not.
Result for the 2024 lottery will be available till 30 September 2024 and result for the 2025 diversity visa will be announced on 4th may, 2024

If you have got selected in the lottery then here is what should you do:-
If you meet the eligibility criteria and got approved then you can go to the United States and become a permanent resident there.
- Go to the Immigrant/Diversity Visa portal and apply for a visa by logging in. (Immigrant Visa – Sign In (state.gov))
- Complete Form DS-260 online to apply for an immigrant visa.
- Following your application, an email arranging an interview in a U.S. embassy or consulate can be sent to you. Here is how to prepare for the interview. (Prepare for the Interview (state.gov))
- If your application for an immigrant visa is granted, your interviewer will notify you.
Eligibility for Diversity Visa:
This programme allows a limited number of persons to enter into the United States. Here are eligibility that you should look after before applying for the same:-
- You should be a citizen of that country who has a smaller number of immigrants in the US.
- You must have graduated from a high school or should have an equivalent degree.
- You should have qualifying work experience.
- You must submit your Electronic Diversity Visa entry form (E-DV Entry Form or DS-5501)
- If you sent an incomplete entry or entry by any other mean then it will not be accepted
- A digital photograph should be submitted not older than 6 months.
