Bellflower can be found in Southeast Los Angeles County. It is part of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. It was established in 1906. made it a incorporated in September 1957.
The site was once rich farmland, which was watered by floodwaters from the now-contained San Gabriel River. F.E. F.E. Woodruff was a local investor in real estate. He founded Somerset, the first municipality on the land, in 1906. A post office was also established there in 1909. The proponents of the name “Bellflower” claimed that the US Post Office Department had rejected the name “Somerset” to avoid confusion with Somerset, Colorado. The current name derives its origin from the bellflower, which was originally grown in orchards around the area in the early 1900s.
