What should you do if your baggage is lost?

If you cannot find your luggage at the baggage claim. Don’t panic here is what should you do to get your baggage back to you:-

Report the loss as soon as possible:

If you could not see your luggage at the claim then your first step will be instantly reporting it to the airline’s service authority at the service desk. If you will report the problem properly then the department will be more likely to act on it.

File a property Irregularity Report (PIR)

You can file a PIR if your baggage is delayed, damaged or lost. This is an official report which will be recorded and make sure to keep a copy of the report for the reference number.

With that reference you can track your baggage status and can check whether the airlines have received it or not.

Make sure to share your contact details with the airline so that they can contact you in case they find the baggage.

Check for claims and Compensation

If you did not find your baggage you can file for compensation for the loss occurred and if you even found your baggage then also you can claim for compensation for the delay caused to you. Check with the compensation and claim policy of the airlines to know the amount or for any additional compensation.

Steps to avoid your baggage being lost

Arrive at the claim on time

Many times it happens that the staff keep aside the unclaimed baggage if they find no one is coming to receive the luggage.

Take the Picture of your Luggage

Sometimes taking the pictures of your luggage might help as this will be more convenient for the staff to locate your luggage.

Use Baggage Tracking

Use a GPS tracking device in your luggage for your personal security this will help you locate your luggage accurately.

Use Direct or Non Stop flights

Use Direct or Non Stop flights to reduce the risk of improper transfer.
