Through this blog, we would like to highlight the efforts of the Rural Organisation for Social Elevation (ROSE)Homestay, an initiative by Gopal Ratna awardee Mr Jeevan Verma, in promoting volunteer and cultural tourism.
You may think your light is small, But it can make a huge difference in other people’s lives. It’s a small effort of Rural Tourism Uttarakhand.
आपको लगता है कि आपका प्रकाश छोटा है, लेकिन यह अन्य लोगों के जीवन में बहुत बड़ा बदलाव ला सकता है।
What is Rural Tourism?
Rural Tourism is the perfect way to explore the world meaningfully. Travelling does not always mean exploring new places or meeting new people. There is a greater connotation to it. It can be more gratifying when one travels for a cause and positively impacts the local community during travel.
Mother Nature has given us these beautiful places to explore. Still, our social responsibility is to travel to these mesmerizing places and give something in return in our own possible ways. If travellers and travel providers across horizons are aligned on this, we can make this world- a beautiful place to live.
Role Of NomadLawyer
The mission of Nomad Lawyer in the field of volunteer travel is twofold. First, it offers an opportunity for people to meaningfully contribute to improving living standards by building capacity in our host countries. Secondly, we provide committed volunteers to work on projects that benefit the local communities.
A Global tourist’s destination: Travel to Rural India and stay with a homestay host!
It is regulated under the newly launched scheme, the Guest Uttarakhand Home Stay Scheme (2015) Registration No-02 / Home Stay, Dated -16-12-2015 by the District Tourism Development Officer Bageshwar (Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board) in the village of Sunargaon of Kanda, District- Bageshwar, State- Uttarakhand, India.
We can host tourists all year round who want to experience real life in rural India in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the foothills of the Himalayas (elevation 1700 meters approx ).
There are good links to communication with the rest of India through the railway station at Haldwani (Kathgodam) and regular AC modern buses from Delhi. Visa costs have been reduced with the introduction of an E.visa (30 DAYS)
To access the hills and the HOME STAY, you can either avail yourself of the HOST’s own transport or travel by using the unique shared taxis and, of course, the local buses.
While staying at the HOME STAY, you can be involved in the day-to-day life of the HOSTS family and learn about the local Kumauni culture. As the homestay is based in a predominantly farming community, depending on the season, the activities can range from planting/harvesting rice and wheat, grass collection for the micro-dairy and any other day-to-day work that a farm does.
The HOST provides meals produced with produce from farms or other farms within the area and is mainly vegetarian by nature.
During your stay here, there are other opportunities to increase your knowledge about rural education by teaching English or learning some Hindi at the local school, ROSE Public School Sunargaon, Kanda.
You can absorb the local culture by visiting various sites of interest in the local villages of KANDA and Bageshwar.
