Air Arabia Launches Nonstop Flights Between Sharjah and Rome Fiumicino Operating Five Weekly Airbus A320neo Services with Detailed Timetables and European Low Cost Network Updates

Air Arabia has officially launched direct nonstop flights between Sharjah and Rome Fiumicino Airport, establishing a low-cost travel corridor between the UAE and Italy. The five-times-weekly service is operated using Airbus A320neo aircraft, expanding the carrier's European network alongside new regional additions in Jordan and Syria.

The Core Transit Update

Air Arabia has entered a new phase of international route expansion by introducing scheduled passenger flights between Sharjah and Rome, Italy. The direct service commenced on July 15, 2026, and is scheduled to operate five times weekly between Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) and Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO). This route marks the carrier's second destination in Italy, joining Milan Bergamo in its European network. Introductory one-way fares from Sharjah to Rome start from AED 849, making it a competitive option for value-driven travel.

The launch of the Rome route is part of a broader network strategy utilizing next-generation narrow-body aircraft. Air Arabia utilizes the Airbus A320neo on the Rome route, while the longer-range Airbus A321neo LR has supported long-distance expansion, including the double-daily service to London Gatwick launched in July 2026 and flights to Munich. Concurrently, regional subsidiary Air Arabia Abu Dhabi is expanding from Zayed International Airport (AUH) to Amman Civil Airport (Jordan) and Aleppo (Syria) to enhance Middle East mobility.

Traveler Logistics Guide (Information Gain)

  • Connecting at Sharjah (SHJ) Airport Hub:
    • Transit Timing: Because the flight schedule varies between morning and afternoon departures, check your connection itinerary. If connecting from South Asian flights to the 08:10 Rome departure on Mondays and Fridays, select arrival flights landing at SHJ before 05:30 to allow for security checkpoints and terminal transit.
    • Cabin Bag Rules: Onboard entertainment is delivered via the SkyTime wireless streaming network rather than seatback screens. Passengers must bring a personal device (smartphone or tablet) and headphones. Make sure your device is charged, as regional narrow-body cabins do not feature personal power plugs in economy.
  • Rome Fiumicino (FCO) Airport Logistics:
    • Terminal Connections: Flights arrive at FCO Terminal 3. For passengers transferring to domestic flights within Italy or to destinations in the Schengen Area (such as flights operated by ITA Airways), allow at least 75 to 90 minutes to complete EU passport control.
    • Late Arrivals: For flights arriving at 21:00 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, proceed directly to the airport train station to catch the Leonardo Express to central Rome (Termini Station). The last train departs the airport terminal at 23:30.
  • ETIAS Registration and Entry Policies:

Infrastructure Impact Assessment

The new flight route operates under the safety regulations of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the UAE and the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC). It supports a growing passenger market, with travel between Rome and the Arabian Peninsula exceeding two million passengers in 2025, a five percent increase compared to 2024.

By deploying the Airbus A320neo on the Rome route, the carrier achieves a 20 percent reduction in fuel burn and carbon emissions compared to older narrow-body fleets. This performance meets strict European noise and emission standards while keeping operating costs low. The direct connection increases competition on the UAE-Italy route, offering business and leisure travelers a budget-friendly alternative that supports tourism and economic development.
