In this age of modern technology when one can research places with the click of a button, the world has virtually shrunk to such an extent that it has become increasingly difficult to find places which are less traveled and can be termed as offbeat destinations. The result is most of the famous travel destinations are facing the brunt of mass tourism. The alternative can be Rural Tourism or Tourism of the Roots.

Have you ever dreamt of being in the places where your ancestors grew up? Those places are full of memories of your grandparents, unique recipes, special dialects and memorable sceneries that are at the reach of your hand, just by traveling to your roots.

What I feel about going To The Roots

Every time I find myself sputtering, falling off track and feeling mundane in a city, I remind myself that I need to get back to my roots. Staying for a long time in a city may become claustrophobic

Tourism Scout of India in its endeavor to promote rural tourism has successfully curated and lead multiple village walks for its esteemed clients including corporations, government employees, national and international tourists. This is a way envision by TSI in promoting Travelling To Roots.

What is Rural Tourism?

Rural Tourism is the perfect way to explore the world in a meaningful way. Traveling always does not mean exploring new places or meeting new people; there is a greater connotation to it. It can be more gratifying when one travels for a cause and positively impacts the local community during travel. Mother Nature has given us these beautiful places to explore but it is our social responsibility to travel to these mesmerizing places and give something in return in our own possible ways.  If  travelers and travel providers across horizons are aligned on this, we can make this world- a beautiful place to live.

Major Types of Rural Tourism in India:

  • Agricultural tourism
  • Food trails
  • Community ecotourism
  • Tourism through cultural diversity

Rural Tourism in Himachal Pradesh

There are many villages in Himachal Pradesh which are still pristine and surreal. They can be regarded as hidden gems away from the honking cars, loud music and free from the hustle-and-bustle of city life. In these villages, you wake up to the sound of birds chirping in an ideal morning and during the day, you can choose to be part of the village community by helping them with the farming and eating like a local with fresh vegetables plucked from backyard farms. An ideal evening can be spent over a cup of tea, gazing at the stupendously mesmerizing sunset after an afternoon siesta.

Role of Ministry of Tourism in Rural Tourism:

Ministry of Tourism in India has laid a great deal of emphasis on the development of such rural tourism sites which boast of rich art, culture, handloom, heritage and crafts. These villages are affluent in both natural beauty and cultural splendor.

Planning for Rural Tourism- a perspective from service providers

If planned and managed properly, rural tourism can act as a panacea for certain issues of state’s economy like those of unemployment, development and diversification which can, in turn contribute to the sustainable development of the state. Inspiring as well as educating, village tour is an opportunity to understand the roots of the culture, customs, practices, and lifestyle of people.
