Okefenokee Swamp Park

Okefenokee Swamp Park can be found 12 miles south from Waycross, Georgia. You can access the park by driving the Vereen Bell Memorial Highway south to Cowhouse Island. This is the northernmost entrance point to Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Laura S. Walker State Park

Laura S. Walker State Park covers 626 acres in the U.S. State of Georgia. The park is located near Hoboken, close to the Okefenokee Swamp. It was named after Laura S. Walker who was a Georgia writer and teacher. This is the first state park to be named after a woman. It’s an oasis that shares many similarities with the Okefenokee Swamp.
This park is located near the Okefenokee Swamp’s northern edge. It houses fascinating animals and plants such as alligators, pitcher plants and carnivorous pitchers.

Dixon Memorial Wildlife Memorial Management Area

The Dixon Memorial Wildlife Management Area is 36,100 acres in size and operated by the Georgia Forestry Commission. About one-half the WMA acreage is upland pine forest, while one-half is made up of cypress gum wetlands and creek drainage.

Obediah’s Okefenok

Obediah’s Okefenok, the pioneer homestead built in 1800s by Obediah Barber is a legend and a swamper. It is also known as “King of Swamp.” This homestead, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, has been renovated and made into a park. You can walk along the boardwalk of 110 feet, explore the nature trails, and just wander through the museums and buildings.
