Van Vleck House & Gardens #1
The Van Vleck House & Gardens, which was established more than 140 years ago in Montclair as a private estate by Joseph Van Vleck Sr. It was originally built to house and garden successful businessman Joseph Van Vleck Sr. Although the property has seen many changes over the years, the U-shaped Italianate villa with its landscaped grounds and beautiful U-shaped villa have remained unchanged.
These gardens house a majority of ericaceous plants, which have been developed over many generations. This includes hybrid species of rhododendrons or azaleas. Wellmont Theater #3
“The Wellmont Theater was built in 1922 as an auditorium. In 1929, it became a movie theater. Thomas Edison was one of its guests. The theater opened initially onto Bloomfield Avenue, then later on Seymour Street. In the 1970s, it was triplexed and now the original lobby can be found as a restaurant.”
The multi-million-dollar renovation of the Wellmont Theatre made it a highly popular concert venue. The Presby Memorial Iris Garden is the largest non-commercial irise garden in the world. The unique gardens, which cover 6.5 acres and are located on Upper Mountain Avenue in Montclair. They are free to the public.
