CobbLinc bus services serves Marietta. MARTA, which uses trains and buses, is the public transportation system in Metro Atlanta. You can take CobbLinc from CobbLinc station to a MARTA Station and only one CobbLinc fare will be charged. CobbLinc does not provide service on certain holidays such as New Years Day and Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

The Big Chicken

The Big Chicken, a large representation of a 17-metre-high chicken, is a well-known landmark that exudes southern charm and wit. It has been advertising a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Marietta since 1956. You’ll find street directions to Marietta based on the Big Chicken if you spend any time in Marietta.

Pilots, unbelievably use the Big Chicken as a reference point when landing at Atlanta’s international airport. It is so well-known that there is a gift shop where souvenirs, such as a board game or T-shirts, can be purchased.

Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art

The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art was opened in the 1990s. It is housed within a grand Greek Revival-style building with a portico of columns. This portico used to be the city’s primary post office. It was used for scenes in the courthouse of Selma, a film that was released in 2014.

Marietta Confederate Cemetery

Although you may have been to the Confederate Cemetery in part of the Ghosts of Marietta Tour you might want to spend more time at this sacred site in Georgia’s history. The Confederate Cemetery is located next to the City Cemetery. It is also the longest for many hundred miles.

It houses approximately 3,000 soldiers who fought for Confederacy in the American Civil War. These were the’rebel states’ that split from the Union. The cemetery is divided into sections according to state and houses a six-pound (3kg) field gun that was used during the war. It was captured by the union forces in Savannah (Georgia).

Oakton House

Oakton House, Marietta’s oldest continuously occupied house, was built in 1838. This date is just a few years before the city became a city. Confederacy used it as their headquarters during Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, 1864.

However, this failed to stop Union forces under General Sherman marching on Atlanta. The large gardens have been partially laid out in a formal style with box hedging. There is also a milk house, smokhouse, well and barn on the property.
