The Walk of Heroes Veterans War Memorial was designed around a “visual and interactive” concept in order to increase public awareness of the sacrifices of veterans.
The Walk of Heroes Veterans War Memorial Park is situated on three acres in Black Shoals Lake, Rockdale County, Georgia. The veterans memorial park seeks to promote a shared understanding of the sacrifices made by veterans and their families.

Big Haynes Nature Trail
There are more than five miles worth of trails that run through the nature center for hikers, mountain bikers and horse lovers. Approved groups and Scout Groups will have access to the wilderness area along with Big Haynes Creek through four tent pads, grills, firepits, and a council circle.
In 2007, the Big Haynes Creek Nature Center was opened to the public. The Nature Center offers a canoe launch and observation platform, as well as a boardwalk that leads to the northern part of the wooded. The Nature Center can be found off the Centennial Olympic Parkway, directly across Gate D of Georgia International Horse Park.

Costley Mill Park
There are many buildings in the park, including a waterfall, a mine for gold, an old moonshine still and old hillside homes, as well as a water raceway, old mill ruin, and acres of pure nature.

Monastic Heritage Center
On May 6, 2011, the Monastery of the Holy Spirit opened the Monastic Heritage Center. The complex, which covers 17,000 square feet, includes both historic and new Monastery structures. It also incorporates learning elements and hands-on activities to make it a unique welcoming center.
The Monastic Heritage Center brings together public spaces: The Visitor Center and Historic Barn, the Abbey Gift Shop and Cafe, the Abbey Garden Center, the Bonsai Nursery and Green House, the Central Courtyard, and the Memorial Plaza and Prayer.

Pine Log Park
Rockdale County’s Pine Log Park, 14 acres, has six lighted tennis courts and a one-mile nature path, fitness trail, and covered picnic pavilion with toilets. There are also two playgrounds, picnic tables, and grills. The park is open from dawn to dusk.
