Fort Frederica, one of Georgia’s first settlements, was a landmark in war, history and village life. James Oglethorpe founded Fort Frederica to defend his southern boundary. It was a fortress built on the coast which grew into a bustling village. The Spanish were defeated by the Fort Frederica troops, sealing Georgia’s fate in Britain.
The Fort Frederica archeological relics are still visible today, with their tabby structures and artifacts uncovered during past excavations, on well-maintained grounds.
