Don’t let the street dwellers die, when we sleep under the warmth of blankets and heaters around us to keep warm. It our responsibility to support and help them.

The Team NomadLawyer is guided by a single mission – to harness the power of stories across the globe to inspire the best in you and impact the society .

One Religion- Serve Humanity: Donating Blankets to Homeless

Winter season in Delhi is the most beautiful time of the year. Winter arrives in Delhi by early November. Minimum temperatures gradually enter single digits by this time of the year, while the days are cool. Though usually not cold initially, December suddenly becomes cold in the latter half, as chilly north-western winds from the Himalayas begin sweeping the Northern Plains.

Come winter season in Delhi, people enjoy cold waves where locals are seen to sit around a bonfire to get some relief from the cold. Also, it is the winter season which is considered to be the best time to visit Delhi when the temperature drops down to 5°C with a maximum temperature rising upto 20°C.

It is the perfect time for a globetrotter to be in Delhi and for a roadtripper like me, it is the perfect time to hit the snow covered mountains of Himachal and Uttarakhand and enjoy the snow.

Aah! While Delhehites enjoy the winter and embrace this season with open arms, there are larger section of society who sleeps in the open without the comfort of a blanket. For them this time is a nightmare, and many of them have also lost their lives in the shivering winter.

While for most of us, the idea of winter means cuddling under the blanket for warmth, lying in our comfort zone and sipping coffee sitting beside the fire. But for those on the streets, with every drop in the temperatures it’s a fight for survival.

We at NomadLawyer did a survey and identified that a large section of our society sleeps in the open without anything to keep them warm. This culminated in the idea of running a blanket donation drive. The idea was to provide high quality warm blankets to the underprivileged living in the open on the streets. We tried our best to reach out to people in Delhi NCR and other parts of India.

We received a lot of support from our supporters, and pecuniary help poured in from different parts of the country. The help from people provided us with a lot of confidence and we believed together ” we can be the change”.

There is no better gift than providing warm clothing to the needy during the winter season. Lakhs of homeless experience bitterness of winter and are at a great risk of suffering from severe illnesses. The rise in air pollution levels and the early onset of winter this year have made them vulnerable, but at the same time it has given us an opportunity to serve humanity by donating blankets to the needy. We pledge that every winter, our team will conduct donation drive in winter and we urge everyone who can to become part of our mission. There cannot be a bigger satisfaction than saving someone’s life.

With the support we received, we purchased approximately 200 blankets at wholesale price, cost of one blanket is around 200 INR.

We divided the donation drive in three phases, here are the details:

● First Phase: 06.01.2020, Area of Distribution: below Lajpat Nagar Flyover and Near Kalkaji Mandir. Number of blankets distributed: 60

● Second Phase: 12.01. 2020 Area of Distribution: Slum Sector 63, Noida, Uttar Pradesh Number of blankets distributed: 70

● Third Phase: 12.01.2020 Area of Distribution: To kids of NGO, Sarvahitey. Number of blankets distributed: 60

In total the team NomadLawyer distributed approximately 200 blankets. We know this is miniscule and nothing as compared to the number of people sleeping in the open. This is a baby step which we have taken and we urge people to join our hands and together we can change the world.

Hope to see more and more support for our future events.

We sign off with a photo gallery of our blanket donation drive from all the phases:
