Little Rann of Kutch or LRK, as it is known by locals, covers 5000 kilometers in Gujarat. The term ”Rann” refers to a salt marsh, while the word Kutch denotes something that gets wet or dried very quickly.

LRK is submerged in the monsoons while becoming arid and dry in the summer. Interestingly, ‘Kutch’ is also the Sanskrit word for a tortoise – with the flat region appears tortoise-shaped when viewed aerially.

Meet the nomadic Rabadi tribes and admire their exquisite Rabari Bharat embroidery work.

A guide can help plan your visit to the villages. The families are warmly welcoming and showed me their handicraft work. To ward off evil and bad luck, the designs are often made up of bright solid colours with mirrors. I couldn’t resist buying a piece.

The nomadic Rabadi tribes, which are scattered throughout the region, will be fascinating to meet. You can also admire their intricate embroidery and arrange for them to meet you. They are generous and proud of their culture.

The locals will be dressed in traditional attire, complete with bright garments and large silver jewellery. The rich history of the area, its splendid handicrafts and warm, friendly locals will make your stay memorable.

Mesmerizing Salt Pans :

The vastness of the Little Rann of Kutch seems inexorable as you make a way through it. Rann of Kutch is best explored with a local guide. Otherwise, once you are inside, there are no landmarks to help you navigate your way back.

During our safari you’ll see many salt mounds that were meticulously plowed by locals. Underground water reacts with the soil rich in minerals to create salt that is 96 percent pure.

Salt production has been a staple of local life for centuries. However, the British Raj used its revenues to finance military expenditures.

Sunrise or sunset is the best time to visit, as the stretch is golden. You’ll be left spellbound by the sights and evoke a feeling of introspection about how small we really are in this universe.

Conclusion:

Last note: If you plan to visit Rann of Kutch in peak season between November and February, make sure to reserve your accommodation well in advance. You will not be able to get water or snacks once you enter the “White Desert”. Winter nights can be very cold so make sure you have warm clothes.
