Downey History Center

Downey History Center

The Downey Historical Society can be found at the Downey History Center, Apollo Park. The society’s all-volunteer staff have been collecting and preserving records from the southeast part of Los Angeles County for more than 30 years. Original photographs are available from 1870 to present. There are copies of negatives, duplicate prints and 35-mm slides that can be used for images of historical and current events. Also, postcards, artifacts and other items related to Downey’s history and local realia*.

Furman Park

Sports such as baseball & tennis can be played at this public park with restrooms. Furman Park, one of Downey’s largest recreational facilities, has been a popular destination for more than 60 years. Furman Park was chosen to receive Measure S funds due to its popularity. The design phase started in July 2018.
